The original smartphone makers need to be successful for this mobile industry to have a good year and jump start itself again.
By no means am I complaining at all about the latest wars or what has gone on in the acquisition world or even who has won this lawsuit over patents the last 2 years. The problem though for the industry is no one is legitimately keeping an eye on anything outside of Google, Microsoft, and Apple.
Yes, we are all watching… unless of course you despise who is still a die-hard Blackberry user (Blackberry Messenger is likely the cause) and even it’s hard not to watch. Now no I am not saying that 3 big smartphone makers will keep people fascinated 24 hours a day with their devices until someone new trumps them in the battle for smartphone supremacy.
From the industry’s standpoint though and what would be best is to have 4 big smartphone makers playing at an equal level playing field. How awesome would it be for the industry to have all 4 major smartphone makers consistent with mobile applications and extra integration with other forms of daily media? Can you even argue that this would be bad for the industry?
I mean I know this is just a bunch of rambling and it might have been influenced a little bit by me being a Blackberry fan, but the industry could use a jolt and 4 equal level playing smartphone makers I think are just what the doctor ordered. I mean come on how awesome would be to get Blackberry back in the mix and having developers include Blackberry front and center in their new application platforms, a pipe dream right now I know it but come on.
